Tell us a little about yourself.  How did you get involved with Ultimate at Carleton?

Anna Snyder: People joke about going to Carleton to play frisbee, but it’s really just a half joke. I knew I wanted to play high-level Ultimate in college and I when I visited I loved the community, both generally at Carleton, and more specifically with Syzygy. I’m one of 8 seniors on the team now, and it’s been great to be a part of the team’s evolution, both as a unit and in terms of the individual players. Playing with Syzygy has been the best part of college.

What is Ultimate at Carleton all about?

Anna: Laughing, running around, making life long friends, and working really really hard. We have a great time pushing ourselves to the limit, but laughing a lot is really important to us. I think, like at a lot schools, the frisbee teams at Carleton offer an immediate supportive community for new students. So what are we about? I guess I’d say we’re about creating a support system through this awesome sport for the players on our team and working our butts off to have as much fun as possible.

How did Syzygy do last year?  What was the highlight of your season?

Anna: We got 10th at Nationals. We played some really tight games both at Regionals and Nationals – beating SOL twice by two points in one weekend was pretty intense, and coming back from a 6-1 start against Texas to win in 15-9 in pool play was also a highlight.

Who is your favorite team to play against?

Anna: Probably Bella Donna. We both step up our games to play against each other, and we usually manage to keep the spirit pretty high. We beat them my freshman year at Stanford, but have lost every time since then. We’re looking forward to ending that streak this year!

Without giving too much away, what are your team’s offensive and defensive philosophies?

Anna: Work hard. Make good choices.

Has your team set any goals for this season? What are they?<

Anna: We want to leave it all on the field and feel good about all the work and time we’ve spent together. Winning nationals would be pretty sweet too!

What has your team been doing this fall to prepare for the spring season?

Anna: This fall we were really lucky to have so many of our returners on campus. We did a lot of basic work to set a foundation for the winter and spring, and tried out some different O’s and D’s to see if somethings clicked better than others.

What tournaments do you plan to attend in the spring?  Which are you most looking forward to?

Anna: We’ll be going to Pres Day, Stanford and Centex. Centex is always a highlight because it’s our kick-off to the spring season after spending all winter indoors.

What does your team do to get pumped up for a big game?

Anna: Dance. Play tag. Rap.

What do you think about the USAU college restructuring?

Anna: There are some parts of it that are positive and some that aren’t. I think a lot of things still need to be sorted out, but obviously that comes with the territory when you’re restructuring. We’re happy we still will get to play Madison at Regionals, but our road to Regionals will be very different from past years’ Sectionals.

Without bias, which team has a cooler logo, CUT or Hodags and why?

Anna: I’m not a huge fan of scary-looking animals.
