For the third year in a row, Skyd will return to sunny San Jose, California to cover the Youth Ultimate Coaching Conference as part of a partnership with the Bay Area Disc Association. The conference brings those interested in fostering the next generation of ultimate players together for a day of panels and networking.

This year’s theme is “Gender Equity and Girls Ultimate”. The program includes:

  • Marlene Bjornsrud, Executive Director of Alliance for Women’s Coaches, as keynote
  • USA Ultimate’s Dan Raabe, Sarah Powers and Heather Ann Brauer unveiling the latest on Gender Equity and GUM curriculum
  • A panel on Girls in Sports: Challenges, Strategies and Achievements” with Kate Bergeron (WFDF), Emma Mayerson (Alliance for Girls), Miyoko Beetem (Girls on The Run), Jennifer Smith/Courtney Good (BAWSI) and Kathy Toon (Positive Coaching Alliance)
  • A panel on Women’s Paths from High School to College and Club moderated by Manisha ‘Slap’ Daryani
  • Qxhna Titcomb presenting “Defying All Odds: The Success of the All-Star Ultimate Tour”
  • A panel “How to Increase Girls’ Participation: Single Gender or Mixed?”  moderated by Darcy Ellsworth Yow with coaches and Youth Directors from DiscNW (Jude Larene), NC Triangle Ultimate (Leslie Willis) and Bay Area Disc (Valerio Iani)

The event takes place on March 5, and registration is open until Mar 4th. Fees are $65 per person, and $95 after February 29th, 2016. Register now via the Bay Area Disc website to take advantage of the early-bird fee.

For those looking to grow even further as coaches, the USAU Coaching Development Program Level I Workshop with Instructor Dan Raabe will be held on Sunday 3/6, the day after the conference, at William Sheppard Middle School in San Jose. Participants who sign up for the CDP workshop will get access to YUCC for free.

Although we suggest attending the conference in person to get the true benefit of interacting face-to-face and networking with those in the youth ultimate coaching community, Skyd will be present at YUCC to film panels for later release. If you can’t make the conference, stay tuned to our YouTube channel to watch the full presentations.

Special thanks to USA Ultimate, The World Flying Disc Federation, Nike Ultimate Camps, Girls Ultimate Movement, and the Positive Coaching Alliance for being partners of YUCC and making our coverage possible.
