Friday Dumps: Muddy Layouts, New Trick Shots, The Pros

Posted April 26, 2013 at 12:03 pm by | Comments (0)

  • Happy Friday, fellow ulti-mates! Everyone knows what April showers bring, right? May flowers! Muddy layouts! Good thing the tournament (Deep Freeze) wasn’t too true to its name, otherwise this layout would go from muddy to malignant in no time flat. (Yes, Deep Freeze was in February, but the video was posted April 21, so just go with it.)
  • Despite a busy professional schedule, Brodie Smith has somehow found time to travel overseas to China to bring you the latest episode of his infamous trick-shot videos! Some of you may have just rolled your eyes after reading that last sentence, some of you may have gotten a little giddy with excitement. Either way, whether you love the guy or loathe him, Brodie’s back.
  • Another exciting week in the AUDL and MLU. More Saturday-Sunday double-headers for four teams in the AUDL (Chicago, Cincinnati  Rochester, Toronto), and the MLU will feature a Sunday showcase game between Portland and Vancouver, which gives the Stags and Nighthawks doubleheaders this weekend. So get ready and excited for an action-packed weekend the same way ESPN does, Top 10′s and featured highlights!

MLU Defensive Play of the Week

  • For those with a bit more time on their hands on this final day of the work week; extended game highlights of the Wildfire v. Radicals barn-burner and full game footage from MLU:

MLU (listed in reverse order of run time for maximum procrastination efficiency):

Portland Stags @ SF Dogfish

Philadelphia Spinners @ DC Current

Vancouver Nighthawks @ Seattle Rainmakers

NY Rumble @ Boston Whitecaps

  • Really? There’s REALLY more time in the workday, after watching all the great stuff listed above, to put off any forms of “work” and check out more ultimate vids? Impressive. Have some more full-game coverage, this time from the AUDL tilt between the NY Empire and Rochester Dragons:

Thursday Dumps: Hammer!, Tron Vest, Brodie

Posted April 25, 2013 at 11:00 am by | Comments (2)

  • Today’s edition of Dumps will start much like a beginner’s first hammer throw: indoors. But this clip from Indoor Nationals isn’t about the hammer being thrown, it’s about the amazing catch that made the hammer look oh-so pretty.
  • Safety first! Since the introduction of the Flashflight disc, night-time ultimate has been a recreational activity for (daytime) ultimate players and non-ultimate players, alike. If you’re one of these nocturnal Neds or Nancys, make sure you’re as safe as possible with this sweet LED Tron-inspired vest on Kickstarter.
  • Love, love, love seeing ultimate coverage on local news programs. The most recent example illustrating tactics, strategy, and camaraderie comes to us from Montana and features the University of Montana’s college open team, Bear Fight.
  • Speaking of local coverage, a guy by the name of Brodie Smith knows how to get it. The latest edition coming from a well-worded article from the Chicago-based sports blog, ChicagoSide.

Got a minute? Got a second? Got a minute and a second? Then use it wisely by watching an amazing layout grab under pressure from the University of South Florda Scallywags’ captain Jesse “Roman” Goldsmith.

Wednesday Dumps: MLU Blogged, Conferences, DUFFA

Posted April 24, 2013 at 11:00 am by | Comments (0)

  • Elliott Erickson and 3 other current college players in Atlanta need your help. They have the opportunity to participate in the U23 Worlds in Toronto this summer, if only they could get past the dreaded monetary speed-bump. We’ve all been there, tournaments are expensive, so give a little, won’t you?
  • In international news, the DUFFA Hat Tournament is back, and better than ever! Based in Manchester, UK, DUFFA’s “Commotion in the Ocean” (hey-oh!) is the largest European hat tournament, and set a record this year when it took only 4 minutes to sell out!

News Flash: Brodie Smith can throw. Actual News Flash: Cullen Geppert shows great awareness, maintains good poise, and makes Brodie look good with this great tip-toe catch in the Chicago Wildfire’s tilt against the Madison Radicals. It wouldn’t be enough, the Radicals would go on to win a barn-burner, 22-21.

Tuesday Dumps: MLU’s Presidential Petition, Camp Wanna-Huck-It, Nighthawks @ Rainmakers

Posted April 23, 2013 at 7:26 am by | Comments (1)

  • Summer’s right around the corner and nothing screams “wet, hot, ultimate summer” like summer camp. Registration for Ultimate Chicago’s Camp Wanna-Huck-It has been extended to April 26th–the tournament/camping/party experience is open to all players ages 21 and up.
  • Full game coverage of the Nighthawks @ Rainmakers Week 1 game is now up on MLU’s YouTube channel.

And finally, watch NJ Hammerheads’ Austin Bonelli make an amazing catch in yesterday’s game. The Hammerheads went on to cruise past the Dragons, 29-13.
