College Top 20

After two big weekends of ultimate, we here at Inside Breaks are finally ready to move away from the tiered ranking system. We’re going with a Top 20 format for the rest of the season. We decided on 20 teams for two reasons: it reflects the number of teams that will be at Nationals, and it’s hard to decide on who teams 20-25 are especially given the irregularity of college ultimate schedules. Also, we’re still keeping in mind our two rules from the last rankings revision:

  1. A team cannot be hurt or helped by not having played.
  2. A team doesn’t have to move completely out of the rankings because they lost to good competition.

So, without further ado, here is the list:

  1. Carleton College
  2. Colorado
  3. Pittsburgh
  4. British Columbia
  5. Florida
  6. Oregon
  7. Wisconsin
  8. San Diego State
  9. Minnesota
  10. Michigan
  11. Texas
  12. Harvard
  13. Virginia
  14. Iowa
  15. Illinois
  16. California – Santa Cruz
  17. Ohio State
  18. Washington
  19. Georgia Tech
  20. Georgia

Unless there are any unexpected results at the Free State Classic this coming weekend, these will be our rankings heading into The Stanford Invite. With 12 of our top 20 attending the Invite, expect some changes after the first weekend in March.

P.S. We know that there are other teams out there that deserve recognition, who do you guys think they are?
