Movers and shakers
#2 UBC (previously #14)- The addition of Furious George handler and Victoria undergrad John Norris, along with a solid core of elite level Canadian handlers returning from last year is a good combination. UBC had a great SB Invite and President’s day, winning both tourneys and in the process beating 9 teams which received votes this round of rankings. Where did these guys come from? Beautiful British Columbia.
#3 Colorado (previously #2T)- After trampling some of the top teams at Warm Up, Mamabird has proven they’re the team to beat. Sure, they went down in two close games against CUT, but Mamabird is capable of playing big this year as long as they don’t fold under the pressure and expectations.
#15 Washington (previously unranked)- Five losses by a total of 6 points, including a 1 point loss against #2 UBC at the SB Invite. Last year they so very nearly made nationals, this year they look even stronger. Sockeye talent in Phil Murray and the addition of Rhino stud and Grad student Bryson “Tatanka” Uhrig-fox.
#18 California (previously #7)- The 5th place finishers at last year’s College Championships are looking much more touchable than last year. 10-4 at the moment, but they could very well be 7-7 as three of those wins were by one point only. That being said, they have beaten some good teams, and only lost to teams which received votes in this ranking cycle.
#20 Whitman (previously unranked)- The Jeremy Norden play style has paid off this year. In a recent one day tourney vs. some NW conference competition, Whitman was untouchable. Their play is physical, smart and more than able to exploit any weaknesses it finds in an opponent. This weekend at Stanford Open, Whitman gets a crack at some higher level competition which will be a true test of their dominant display earlier in the month.
