Florida State Ultimate is proud to present the sixth annual Tally Classic. Boasting beautiful weather, and luxurious fields DUF is excited to welcome 42 teams down to Tallahassee this year. The Tally Classic has three divisions: D1, D2, and Women’s. D1 is the competitive Open Division with every game observed, and 14 teams battling for the $1000 prize. This years Women’s Division is the largest and most competitive yet at the Tally Classic. D2 is full of up incoming smaller schools and B teams looking to have fun and get great experience. VC will also be in Tally kickin’ it with some great merch. This is looking to be a very fun weekend in sunny Florida.

Open Teams

In D1 it looks like Florida State and LSU might be the favorites. Florida State started the season on fire winning Joint Summit, but came up short in close games against Middlebury and Georgia at T-Town. LSU struggled some in the fall, but they are fresh off a tourney win at CowBell, and most likely have a full squad for the first tournament all season. Never count out Alabama, who is led by Tim Brady, and always seems to stay close in every game. UCF is a solid program, and are always a threat. South Carolina is a talented team that shouldn’t be over looked. USF had a tough time playing some of the nation’s best last year, curious to see if that will become a valuable learning experience that they capitalize on.

D2 will be full of young players and inexperienced teams. Miami will most likely roll in and show some force. They are a top heavy squad with a few great club level guys, but also a ton of young guys. Georgia State is a rising team that will make some noise, and North Florida has some players with mixed Nationals experience. This division could be totally up for grabs though.

Women’s Teams

Georgia is the returning champions, but they aren’t guaranteed anything. UCF is a talented squad that has been putting in some serious work. The Sirens already boast two victories over the Hodawgs from the Fall Winter Classic earlier this year. Georgia Tech will be solid, and the FSU Ladies are going to put up some serious fights. This is a division that could be taken over by anybody though, as many of the teams haven’t played a tournament yet this season.

Players to Watch (Open)

  • Nick Fletcher (Florida State)- A freak athlete with a relentless motor. Also a very dedicated student of the game who spends countless hours watching film of the best teams. He is a force on the field who has the ability to exert his will when he chooses.
  • Kofi Thompson (UCF)- Will get about 3 layout d’s a game on your best player. Leads a young but solid UCF squad.
  • Mike Hickson (UCF)- This former AC Region ROTY has major talent and unmatched size. If he can keep his cool, he will score about 8 goals a game on you.
  • Tim Brady (Alabama)- A gift to watch. He is always busy on the field, and seems to always be in complete control. At any given moment look for him to make an amazing play, whether it be a beautiful break throw or the grittiest lay out.
