Talking Points:

The Top 10

With a propensity for beating up on each other, the top 10 teams on the Women’s side may show even more parity than the Open division.  It speaks to the amount of games these teams have had against each other this year.  The amazing number of close games between teams in the top 10 means that unlike last year’s blowout by Fugue, the 2011 College Championships should be a true fight the whole way.

Oregon Fugue

At one point just the sight of the fearsome yellow caused opponents to flee.  This time around, it seems like some teams are tempted to chase.  While the early season say Oregon’s winning-ways, a disaster of a Centex saw them lose more games in two days than they had in the previous 10 months.  With losses to UNC, UCSB, Washington and Stanford, Fugue found themselves out of the front runner position.  Of course, if anyone in Women’s Ultimate knows how to get back on a winning streak, it’s yellow.

Ottawa or Not?

You won’t find them in the USAU rankings due to their lack of certified games (only 7 of the necessary 10), but their rankings of (we assume) over 9000 doesn’t scare us from putting them up with a fighting chance. After a disappointing President’s Day, Ottawa destroyed all competition at the Keystone Classic, including a 14-7 win over Tufts. Led by the play of Anne Mercier, Ottawa is the team to beat in the Metro East.
