This weekend in the Eastern Conference the Rochester Dragons are on a two game road trip in DC and Philadelphia. The Dragons will be playing without TJ Burns and Joe Thompson this weekend, while Zack Smith will miss Saturday’s game against DC. Burns leads the team in Goals, D’s, and is second on the team in Asssists, and Thompson leads the team in Assists. With a 2-5 record the Dragons can’t afford to come up empty on another two game road trip. The Breeze will be playing without leading goal scorer Justin Solis for the second straight week, and also need a win to stay relevant in the playoff discussion. The New Jersey Hammerheads host the Philadelphia Phoenix on Saturday, in the first game between these two teams in the regular season. The Hammerheads won the preseason game 21-19, but that was a long time ago. Now the Hammerheads are 1-5 and the Phoenix are 3-1. The Hammerheads badly need to start a win streak to move out of the cellar. A Phoenix victory would put them at 4-1, in solid position for the playoffs.
In the Midwestern Conference the Windy City is back in action this week as they travel to Detroit to play the Mechanix. It’s the first meeting between the two teams this year, and the Wildfire will be without Bob Liu. Liu was very instrumental in the Wildfire’s 16-15 victory over the Radicals in Madison, doing an excellent job filling in for Brodie Smith on the O-Line. Luckily for Windy City, Smith is back in action this week. Tonight in Madison the Radicals host the Wind Chill for the second time this season. The Wind Chill will miss James Hron tonight, but Grant Lindsley is active, for only the second time this season. In Cincinnati the Revolution will be hosting the AlleyCats in a rare back to back games. Last weekend the AlleyCats defeated the Revolution in Indianapolis, 28-21. The ‘Cats could move into sole possession of third place with a sweep, as could the Revolution. Indianapolis will be at full strength, while the Revolution will be considerably more shorthanded. They’re playing without Jeff Kula, Ryan Gorman, and Kevin Reichert. Anything other than a split would be surprising, but the opportunity is there for the AlleyCats can take advantage of the shorthanded Revolution and get a sweep.
Remember, in the AUDL each team is allowed a roster of 28 players, but only 20 can be active for any one game. So each team can have a full roster of 20 active while leaving eight inactive. The inactive players are either players with injuries, other commitments, or players trying to play their way onto the active squad. This is much like how in the NBA 15 players are allowed on each roster, but only 12 can be active at a time.
