2014 College Tour

The 2014 College Tour is presented by Spin Ultimate

Skyd’s in-depth college coverage is back for the 2014 season, and we’re proud to announce the stops on our 2014 College Tour, presented by Spin Ultimate. Skyd will once again be providing detailed previews, analysis, feature stories, interviews, recaps, videos, and more as we travel around the country to the biggest, best, and most important college tournaments in all four college divisions. We’re proud to be confirmed at four regular season DI Open events, four regular season DI Women’s events, two regular season DIII Open events, and three regular season DIII Women’s events. Skyd is still in the process of adding more events to the roster, but with the college season about to kick off and our first preseason rankings coming up next week, we want to let you know what to expect at all of our College Tour events.

As more and more teams take to Twitter to communicate play by play updates (or at least point by point scores), and live score reporter updates are now the norm at major tournaments, our college coverage is shifting to bring the readers of Skyd Magazine the expert content that they can’t get by following along at home. Our focus for the 2014 College Tour is on providing insightful analysis, compelling feature stories, exclusive interviews, identifying and exploring trends, and finding the story of the tournament and of the season. We’re going back to emphasizing the magazine part of Skyd Magazine by putting out more unique content, longform features, and expert commentary. Look for the return of Bryan Jones to the college scene, the very first dedicated DIII Women’s coverage of any kind, and more.

Coverage will also include Power Rankings and tournament MVP red jerseys from Spin.

Callahan Award

After a successful first campaign in 2013, Skyd Magazine will be hosting and presenting the Callahan Award again in 2014. Stay tuned to Skyd as we release our Callahan Power Rankings, follow candidates across the College Tour, conduct exclusive interviews, and take the award all the way to Cincinnati. We’ll also be opening Callahan nominations earlier this year – in February – and voting will also be hosted by Skyd Magazine and Ultimate Central.

Finally, we want to thank our College Tour partners – Spin Ultimate for making the whole tour happen again, and Without Limits for helping to grow participation, skill, and media coverage in women’s ultimate.
