Few can say they’ve accomplished as much in and for the sport as Hall of Famer Suzanne Fields. After competing at Nationals with Boston Open Division teams, in 1981, Suzanne led the charge for the formation of the UPA Women’s Division and was its first director through 1984. She went on to lead Boston’s BLU to become the first-ever Women’s Division champions in the first year of the division’s existence. In 1984, Suzanne’s leadership and skill led her to an unprecedented Women’s Division World Championship, when she assembled a pick-up squad of only 8 players and took the World title by storm. Suzanne won her second World title with the first Mixed Masters team in 1990 and is still active in the sport today as a recreational player and the USA Ultimate Hall of Fame coordinator.

In Part 1 of 2, Skyd’s Elliot Trotter talks with Suzanne about her early years with the sport, including the led up to the creation of the Women’s Division, her first championship with BLU and her time with the Boston Spinsters. Suzanne also provides unique perspective on the success of great teams like Lady Condors and Lady Godiva.
