Tell us a little about yourself. How did you get involved with ultimate at your school?

Will “Jimmy” Gagne-Maynard: I got “skyd” by a CUT player the first week of pick-up my freshman year. He was not very nice about it.  I now play for GoP.

How did your team do last year? What was the highlight of your season?

Jimmy: Won DIII Natties, finished 5th at regionals. Highlight: beating Minnesota at Sectionals / playing CUT at the finals in TCF Stadium

Who is your favorite team to play against?

Jimmy: Any team with GoP Alumni (Illinois, Wisconsin, UCSD, Iowa).

Tell me about your coach(es)/captain(s). What do they bring to your team?

Jimmy: Danny Hoppe brings unlimited energy and ridiculous layout D’s and breaks. Sam Tucker brings the bod. Andrew Hooker brings the sassy playing and the philosophizing.

Are there players on your team who deserve consideration for Callahan, All-Region, or Freshman of the Year?

Jimmy: Rhys Lindmark (Won FOTY for the Central Region last year).  Always comes down with the disc, unless he was fouled. Sam Feigenbaum (Potential Callahan nominee) always gets his dump off.

What player is most likely to make a huge play as a thrower? As a receiver? On D?

Jimmy: Sam Tucker always throws it.
Peter Rodgers always runs for it.
Martin Granick always makes a play on it.
Have you met Jimmy?

It’s easy to see when someone throws a huge huck or gets a layout D. Who’s a player you have to watch more carefully to see how valuable they are to your team?

Jimmy: Todd Anderson plays complete shutdown D. His man never touches the disc when Todd is in the zone.

How does your team bring new players up to speed on ultimate?

Jimmy: Quickly.

Without giving too much away, what does your team like to do on offense and on defense?

Jimmy: Offense: Chilly, patient, lots of cheating (think travels, but better)
Defense: “Team” defense

Has your team set any goals for this season? What are they?

Jimmy: Beat teh CUT. Make it to Natties.

You’re the DIII Nationals Champion twice running. Do you expect a repeat victory this year? What teams will give you the most trouble?

Jimmy: USA Ultimate. Middlebury (Exhibition?)

What has your team been doing this fall to prepare for the spring season?

Jimmy: Having 40+ people at practice. Hallowinona (COSTUMES!)

What tournaments do you plan to attend in the spring? Which one are you most looking forward to?

Jimmy: Southerns!
DIII Conference / Developmental Conference
DII Regionals
DI Natties

What does your team do to get pumped up for a big game?

Jimmy: Sing the Hawaii 5-0 Theme.

How does GOP differentiate itself from CUT as a team? What are the dynamics of having two national-class teams at one university? Do players ever switch between teams? Do you practice together?

Jimmy: The dynamics between CUT and GoP are extremely interesting.  We all see each other daily and even live together.  Overall I think the difference boils down to positivity.  GoP is all about positive reinforcement, whereas teh CUT is about winning at all costs.

Goppers who have switched to CUT: Curly, Ty Thorsen, Timmy Foran (May their names go down in infamy)
Cutters who have switched to GoP: William Beaves O’Brien, William “Swilly Willy” Herold

What is the Ultimate culture at Carleton like? Are other students aware of the incredible success of the program?

Jimmy: Ultimate culture at Carleton is firmly based on intramurals and the two course ultimate sequence offered as gym credits. Carleton currently has 6 intercollegiate teams and 4 regional level teams. Everyone knows who Rhys Lindmark is….

What song would you pick for the soundtrack to your team’s 2011 highlight video?

Jimmy: Barbara Ann by the Beach Boyz

What do you think about the USA Ultimate College restructuring?

Jimmy: We thank them for accepting our petition to not be a developmental team.

Which team has the best shot at winning the 2011 USA Ultimate College Championships?

Jimmy: Colorado / CUT

This is the only picture GoP provided us with. As far as we're concerned, there could be no better representation of this team. Pure swagger.

Apart from their on-field talents, the Gods of Plastic also excel at growing facial hair. Check out this video from cutter Corey Fauver:
