AUDL Preview & Inactive List: Week 8

by | May 31, 2013, 9:30am 0

This is the first week several Wisconsin Hodags will be in action for the Madison Radicals, though Brian Hart will not be among them. Hart got injured last weekend at the College Championships. The Radicals will host the Revolution on Sunday, with Cincinnati having played the day before in Minnesota. AUDL teams are 3-10 on the second game of back to backs when playing fresh opponents, and the only teams with wins are the Rush and Wildfire. It might be a tough weekend for Cincinnati, who could end up 3-8 on Sunday and out of the playoff race. The Wildfire are travelling to Indianapolis to play the AlleyCats, who are on a three game winning streak. The Wildfire are without Brodie Smith for the game, as well as Geoff Serednesky, who is third on the team in goals. If the AlleyCats can steal a win from the Wildfire it would be huge for their playoff hopes.

In the East the Phoenix and Breeze are playing two game weekends. The Breeze are playing in New Jersey and New York. A sweep would put them in the thick of the playoff race, but is very unlikely. Last time they played in New York the Breeze lost 25-11, and the Breeze have yet to win a road game. The top two teams in the East face off Saturday afternoon in Toronto. The Phoenix have had a lot of close calls, but are entering the game with a 5-1 record. Though they’re probably concentrating  on their game against Toronto, they can’t look past Rochester the next day. Rochester has already won a home game against New York, and has been playing much better lately. It’s the type of game the Dragons have to start winning if they want to make a playoff push.

Remember, in the AUDL each team is allowed a roster of 28 players, but only 20 can be active for any one game. So each team can have a full roster of 20 active while leaving eight inactive. The inactive players are either players with injuries, other commitments, or players trying to play their way onto the active squad. This is much like how in the NBA 15 players are allowed on each roster, but only 12 can be active at a time.
