Regional Results 2013: DI Women’s (Updated)

Here’s the haps at Regionals around the nation. Rankings are from the USAU Rankings at the end of the regular season.

Atlantic Coast (April 27/28) – Score Reporter – 1 Bid

Virginia #12 goes undefeated, proving once and for all they’re the top dog out of the competitive Atlantic Coast. Hydra beat UNC Pleiades #19 15-12 in the finals to win the region.

Great Lakes (April 27/28) – Score Reporter – 1 Bid

Northwestern #31 unseats last year’s national semifinalist Michigan #22 in a 15-12 finals win to earn their way to Madison.

Metro East (April 27/28) – Score Reporter – 1 Bid

After close semifinal games for both Ottawa #50 and NYU #64, Ottawa Lady GeeGees defeat the Violent Femmes to win the region 11-9.

New England (May 4/5) – Score Reporter – 2 Bids

Tufts #4 strolls through the competition, beating Northeastern #17 in the finals 15-4. But the Valkyries would triumph in the backdoor final, beating unranked Middlebury 15-5 to take the second bid.

North Central (May 4/5) – Score Reporter – 5 Bids

Carleton #2 dispatched Iowa #6  10-9 in pool play and Iowa State #8 12-10 in finals to take the top spot at North Central Regionals, moved from Minnesota to Iowa due to weather/field playability concerns. Iowa State Woman Scorned beat Iowa Saucy Nancy 13-10 for second place, while Wisconsin #13 earned the fourth spot after handily beating Minnesota #11 15-6. But Minnesota wouldn’t be denied a spot at the College Championships, as they comfortably beat Northern Iowa #72 15-9 and Wisconsin-Eau Claire #45 15-4 to take the fifth and final bid.

Northwest (May 4/5) – Score Reporter – 4 Bids

Despite a scare in the finals, Oregon #1 takes the region and likely the first seed at the College Championships. Washington #7 lost in the finals 10-11, then dropped the seeding game to British Columbia #5 11-12 to fall to third. Victoria #9 lost twice to Whitman #25 to finish fifth, while Whitman celebrated their first trip to the D-I College Championships.

Ohio Valley (April 27/28) – Score Reporter – 1 Bid

Ohio State #3 rolls through the weekend beating Pittsburgh #33 15-1 in the finals game.

South Central (April 27/28) – Score Reporter – 1 Bid

After Colorado #23 spends the season ranked above their regional rivals, perennial Nationals attendees Texas Melee #26 go undefeated clinch the Regional title. Yeehaw!

Southeast (May 4/5) – Score Reporter – 2 Bids

Weather delayed the tournament a week, causing teams to drop and the teams to all play in a single pool of 7. Favorite Georgia #10 ran the table, punctuated by an emphatic 13-4 victory in finals over Central Florida #16. But the Sirens took care of conference rival Florida #39 13-5 in the game to go.

Southwest (May 4/5) – Score Reporter – 2 Bids

Stanford #15 upset favorite California-Santa Barbara #14 in the finals 12-11 after coming back from a 3-8 halftime deficit. But UCSB was merciless in the backdoor game to go, beating UCLA #32 15-4 and making it back to the College Championships after a one year absence.
