Spirit Matters at the Top of the Game

When one of the game’s most accomplished players first started, they thought Spirit was about dressing up in skirts and playing barefoot. Another didn’t have much of a concept of Spirit at all.
But as each of these panelists’ careers advanced, they came to see Spirit of the Game as a crucial piece of the puzzle. From staying positive and being supportive to staying in control of your actions, Spirit can test your mental strength, which is critical to performing at your best.
Of course, it can be challenging to play a Spirited game when you don’t know the other team, especially when there’s a lot on the line. Keeping a dialogue on Spirit alive creates relationships between top teams, which can keep games clean even with gold medals on the line.
