Josh Anderson is a junior captain of Colorado College. He is one of the tall cutters that keeps coming down with disc after disc.
What was your introduction to Ultimate?
I went to high school in at George Washington High School in Denver, and first picked up a Frisbee my freshman year,

but never really played Ultimate until I got to college. I played Lacrosse in high school, which I’d like to think has translated reasonably well to the Ultimate field. Lots of running, good field sense, more running, etc. When I got to CC, I knew I wanted to play Ultimate (the culture of the sport is just way better), but didn’t really establish myself on the team until the Spring. Trouble in Vegas hooked me. It was a great mix of good ultimate and great partying. By the end of my Freshman year, I knew that I wanted more Ultimate in my life. I practiced with a club team the following summer, but it was nothing too serious.
What has your career at Colorado College been like?
Sophomore year at CC was a big building year for me. I came back to school with better throws and a bigger role on the team. I am naturally a cutter, but lack of handlers on our team meant that I spent a lot of the year in a handler slot. This helped my throws and game sense, but I my down-field game suffered a little. The short squad that we had also made me realize that being in great shape was essential.
Last summer I played club mixed with a Denver/Boulder team. Once again I returned to CC, this time as a captain, and

a bigger, more skilled team. This allowed me to get back to cutting, which I’ve become more and more comfortable with all season. If I run a lot on offense, I’m usually even more active on defense, and am excited to mark up on some great players at Nationals. In a close game, don’t look for me to sit (m)any points.
What do you do outside of Ultimate?
Outside of Ultimate, you can find me skiing, backpacking, canyoneering, mountain biking, or anything else that involves the outdoors. I love being outside, and decided to stay in Colorado for college so that I could enjoy 300 days of sun every year. I’m and Environmental Science and Physics major, and work as a sustainability intern on campus. I’m also psyched on traveling, and took a year off after high school to go around the world. I’ll be taking the fall of next year off to travel for another 6 months, and then be back to dominate for another in the Spring for another season with Wasabi.
What do you plan to do with Ultimate outside of College?
The great thing about Ultimate, aside from the sport itself, is the community and people. I think wherever I end up, I’ll be playing more Ultimate at the Club level at some point.
