Skyd Magazine and founder Charles Kerr are pleased to announce the 2016 Callahan Award. Founded in 1996 by Charles Kerr, the award is named for Henry Callahan, an ultimate player and one of the sport’s original organizers (for more on Henry, listen to our podcast with his brother, Jay).
The Callahan award recognizes the most valuable players in men’s and women’s college ultimate.
In the eyes of his or her peers, the Callahan winner is the personification of the ideal ultimate player. Like Henry himself, players who win the award are recognized not just for their on-field accomplishments, but display superior athleticism, outstanding sportsmanship, leadership and dedication. As ultimate’s oldest and most prestigious award, it is hoped players nominated for the Callahan will continue as ambassadors for the sport through superior on-field play and sportsmanship.
Nomination and voting will once again take part with the help of award partners Ultimate Central. Their central voting system allows the process to flow smoothly, and helps every candidate gain notice within the community.
