As expected there hasn’t been too many changes after Sectionals and Regionals, but we still have some movement in our power rankings as we go into Club Championships.
Sockeye doesn’t lose but drops?
On Saturday of Regionals, Sockeye was cruising to victory but were hit with an untimely injury. As he attempted a greatest, Matt Rehder broke his arm diving out of bounds. If there has been one player that has mattered in big games to the Fish, it has been Rehder.. His size alone stands out on a team that barely averages six feet tall. The athleticism and talent he brought to Sockeye helped them take down Revolver at Labor Day. He will be sorely missed during Club Championships as Sockeye pursues a title.
To the Top!
Doublewide and Revolver both moved up this week to inside the top three. Doublewide gets the nod at number two with the most recent head to head victory. Right now Austin is playing well, but what will it be like with Kurt Gibson returning to near full strength at Championships? Revolver on the other hand looks to be poised to make a deep run once again, but they still aren’t the favorite after taking some dings in the regular season.
Dropping like a Rock
GOAT was a point of way from being much higher on this list, but instead imploded against Ironside and then lost to PoNY immediately following. They’ll probably be even lower in seeding, but will be a tough out for any opponent.
This may be the most wide open nationals in several years with a few favorites but looking pretty far down the list of teams with experience and those that can make a run. Also, the bottom dwellers aren’t exactly scrubs as almost all of them has come close to tasting glory at one point this season. We’re excited to see the tightest field yet going into Sarasota.
