Tell us a little about yourself. How did you get involved with Ultimate at your school?

Red Smith: I went out to a practice with a friend and got hooked.

Cos Perez: My friends signed me up and I went out to a practice with them. Enjoyed and continued.

How did your team do last year? What was the highlight of your season?

Red: Our team won the Southern California section tournament and placed 5th at Southwest regional tournament. The highlight of last season was traveling to North Carolina to play Easterns during our spring break and coming back to California with new found skills to win Sections.

Who is your favorite team to play against? Tell us about a memorable game.

Red: San Diego State, who we can’t seem to get away from, is a great team to play. We are of similar skill level and they play very intense. Another favorite is Black Tide (Santa Barbara), another sectional rival that we have close games with. We won games against both teams at Sectionals but lost to both at Regionals when it mattered.

How does your team bring new players up to speed on Ultimate?

Cos: To bring new players up to speed early in the season we reinforce the fundamentals of good play. We have our newer players throwing the basic throws and focus on providing them with a positive ultimate experience.

What tournaments do you plan to attend in the spring? Which one are you most looking forward to?

Red: We plan to attend Prez. Day, Easterns, Stanford, Santa Barbara Invite. We are looking most forward to Easterns: Easterns this year boasts an impressive line-up with many National level teams, the tournament is very well run and we bonded tremendously as a team last year and there’s a good chance we’ll bond again.

Has your team set any goals for this season? What are they?

Cos: We have one goal; conquer our fear of flying so we can get to Nationals. Boom
