The fourth round of the day featured Colorado College Wasabi (12) versus Illinois UIUC (17). Colorado College came down with the opening pull and immediately jacked it down field for a goal.  Illinois was not discouraged and hucked it right back to the most senior Illini player, Chris Hidaka, for the goal. The two teams traded points for most of the game until a late turn by Illinois allowed CC to get their second break in a row making it 6-4. Illinois swiftly moved the disc up the field and Illinois MVP Chris Hidaka was able to throw a bullet of a backhand to a laying out Austin Lien to tie the game at 6-6. Nicky Spiva of CC then took over and confidently lead his team to take a 8-7 halftime lead.

These two teams were very evenly matched and not afraid to huck, making for some amazing goals. It was interesting to see these teams offenses compared against each other with out ever meeting one another in the regular season.

In the 2nd half, a huge D by UIUC’s Brian Rathunde gave Illinois the first break of the half making it 11-10 Colorado College. The soft cap sounded and the game was to 13. A drop by CC gave Jack Krieger of UIUC a chance to make an amazing grab and put Illinois ahead 12-11. CC was just about to tie the game in time for universe but a bidding catch by CC’s Henry Konker was called OB. An insane grab by Illinois’s Ryan Smith was a spectacular finish for Illinois, who earned 3 consecutive breaks to win the game.
