8 teams came to Rockford for the Great Lakes Open DIII Regionals. Rose-Hulman was at the top of Pool A, while North Park headed Pool B. No big upsets in pool play, as all the seed held accept for B4’s Hope College beating out B3’s Kettering. All teams advanced to Sunday bracket. Calvin was able to upset Valporaiso on universe point in the quarters, but aside from that seeds held.
In the semi’s Rose-Hulman beat Calvin with little trouble and finished quickly to watch Olivet Nazarene put up a good fight against North Park. Ultimately North Park won the game 15-12.
In the finals, North Park Lost Boys, took an early lead over Rose-Hulman with a break to start the game. After trading for a few more points Rose got the break back and broke again to take the lead 6-3. North Park was able to recover right before half, and rattled off a few breaks to take half 8-7. From there North Park received and scored to get the quasi-break. The Lost Boys never looked back, winning the game 15-10, and securing the only bid the DIII Nationals in Buffalo.
