Training professionals and elite players weigh in on your questions about strength, conditioning and becoming a better athlete.

How it works

  1. Every month we’ll feature a new topic and panel.
  2. Submit your questions in the comments and help pick the best by giving a “thumbs up” to your favorites. Deadline for questions is Friday August 19th @ 5pm PST.
  3. The Skyd Expert Panel will answer the top voted questions.

This week’s panel:

TYLER KINLEY, Captain of Seattle Sockeye

Tyler is captain of Seattle Sockeye, where he is primarily a defensive handler. Known for guarding top handlers and distributing the disc after the turn, Tyler also leads Sockeye’s workouts. Tyler has played Ultimate for Tulane University, University of Michigan, BAT, and currently plays for Sockeye. He has experience coaching and teaching ultimate on youth, college and club levels on multiple continents.

MELISSA WITMER, Kinesiology

Melissa dropped out of Chemistry at the University of Illinois in favor of playing more Ultimate and earning a Masters in Kinesiology. She has several years of coaching experience with both college and high school players. In 2010 she began Ultimate Results with the goal of providing better, Ultimate specific fitness and coaching resources to team captains and coaches. Melissa currently plays for Blue Route out of Philadelphia PA. You can read more about Melissa’s personal training regimen at melissasultimatefitness.com

SAMANTHA MCCLELLAN, Biomedical Engineer and Personal Trainer

Samantha, after being a full time personal trainer for over a year, has stepped back to part time training and is working full time as a biomedical engineer.  At Catholic University she was a full time student-athlete, getting two degrees and competing in four years of NCAA Cross Country, Swimming, and Track and Field.  Ultimate, at the time, was merely a “for-fun” club activity where she played on the men’s team.  Her last year of college, she began playing for DC’s club women’s team, Scandal.  She has played with them ever since.

Strength training, conditioning, practices, tournaments.  How do you manage the demands of in season training?
